STRATAGRIDS "Spatial Work" with some parts read by Brad

STRATAGRIDS
Measuring Infinity: A Test Arrangement

at the Auditorium of the HKW as part of A Matter Theater.

How to measure the immeasurable? According to most physicists, our universe consists of 95 percent dark matter and energy, phenomena that cannot be observed, only indirectly traced and described. This paradox serves as a point of departure for a performative inquiry involving a careful staging of tools and techniques for measurement: a sonic diagram, a computer simulation, a video animation. A point of gathering for thinkers and viewers alike, akin to an infinite bonfire in the darkness of space.

Fri, Oct 17, 3 pm — 10 pm
Admission: 5€/3€

THOSE GARAGE DOORS HAVE NO FANCY VEHICLES BEHIND THEM: THEY’RE FALSE FRONTS

"Media mogul David Geffen, has a highly secured five-parcel affair that once belonged to Doris Day at Carbon Beach. The back of the plot faces the Pacific Coast Highway, the primary artery connecting Californians to the Pacific. Directly adjacent to Geffen’s property is a public path to the ocean that he fought for years to block off, knowing that such an entrance would make the west side of his house a thoroughfare for the sun-worshipping public. To combat the crush of cars that would inevitably end up parked in front of his property, Geffen built four garage doors, complete with curb cut-outs, into the PCH-facing side of his house. Those garage doors have no fancy vehicles behind them: they’re false fronts, completely sealed off on all sides. If this parking scare tactic sounds illegal, that’s because it is."

Rest in Peace OZ

Walter Josef Fischer's body was discovered on the tracks of Hamburg’s subway, with a new tag and paint can reportedly found nearby.

Asked by a local fanzine if he was an obsessive, Fischer said: “What does obsessive mean? I always tell myself there is a lot to be done. I don’t feel guilty for prettifying our environment.”

Festival of Minimal Actions

Festival of Minimal Actions
27 actions performed by 1 person
3.October–2. November, Brussels

Considering that the best way to keep a “performance” alive is to repeat it, the German artist Thomas Geiger has collected 27 inconspicuous concepts of art pieces that had already been accomplished by their authors in public, for the haphazard onlookers. During the month of October 2014 he is going to repeat them himself within the Belgian capital during the festival he has created and aptly called the Festival of Minimal Action… (Sophie Lapalu: There is no repetition)

With works by: Iván Argote (CO), Fayçal Baghriche (DZ/FR), Stijn van Dorpe (BE), Brad Downey (US), Karsten Födinger (DE), Andrew Gannon (UK), Thomas Geiger (DE) Eric Hattan (CH), Harmen de Hoop (NL), Florence Jung (FR), Ben Kinmont (US), San Keller (CH), Paul Maheke (FR, Antoanetta Marinov (IT), Michikazu Matsune (JP), Mikko Kuorinki (FI), Ana Navas (ECU), Natalie Obert (DE), Tilsa Otta (PE), Rosalie Schweiker (CH), David Sherry (NIR), Pilvi Takala (FI), Adrien Tirtiaux (BE), Yann Vanderme (FR), Jan Voss (DE), Ella Ziegler (DE), Hannes Zebedin (AT)

The Festival will be opened with my text-performance I tried to see the top of my head at Beurrschouwburg, October 3rd, 8pm. The text will be read by Philippe Severyns.
